Help for Square Pegs in Round Holes
… Why one-size-fits-all education does not work.

We are all born with a dominant brain pattern.

These brain patterns, the genetic part of our personality, show outwardly as particular behaviours.

For more than 5000 years, four main patterns (or Temperaments) have been observed in all populations and in all ages.

Each of these observed groups (listed below as 'curious’, 'colourful', 'crusading' and 'conservative'), has a dominant learning style and motivation for learning.

As a whole, the education system tends to use the learning style and motivation characteristics of the conservative group as the model for many education programs.

This means that the majority of children are being forced to conform to a system of learning which is often de-motivating and ineffective at bringing out the true potential of the majority of children.

Added to this mismatch between children’s learning styles and the standard adopted style, is the discrepancy between the distribution of the teachers’ styles and the general population (including students). (See chart below)

It is no wonder that there are many children feeling like square pegs in round holes!

Where children are struggling with a system or environment of learning which is unnatural for them, it is essential that parents have the tools to be able to advocate for them, while maintaining good relationships with teachers.

Having the information about these important differences in learning and teaching styles, and being able to discuss the differences confidently with teachers, are two of the critical tools that parents need.

Sustainable Change can provide parents and children with the information (personal and individual) to discover the learning style and other Temperament preferences to deal with the mismatches in the learning and teaching environment.
